SPARTAN SWIMMING uses an athlete progression model that USA Swimming uses as a tool for educating parents, swimmers and coaches about athlete progression and long term development. Each swimmer is given the age and ability appropriate amounts of time in practice, skills, drills and aerobic conditioning to prepare them for long term success as a swimmer and person. Swimmers are trained as a whole, meaning that one stroke and one distance does not take precedent over the other events. They are educated on nutrition, time management, stress control, life balance, character development and yes, swimming FAST!

The Group Program Fees outlined below DO NOT include SPAR Aquatic Center Membership Fees. SPARTAN SWIMMING participants who train at the SPAR Site  MUST be a valid member of the SPAR Recreation & Aquatic Center, OR pay the daily entrance fee each time they come to practice.  It is suggested that NEW SWIMMERS pay the daily fee until such time that you feel comfortable that purchasing a SPAR Membership is viable. Dropping from the Spartan Swimming program WILL NOT cancel your SPAR Membership contract! In-district participants can purchase SPAR Membership for as little as $20 per month, and as little as $31 per month for a family of up to 5 people. Out-of-district participants can purchase SPAR Membership for as little as $31 per month for a single swimmer, and $60 per month for a family of up to 5 people. Unlike the other facilities in the area, a membership with SPAR entitles the participants to use the entire facility whenever they want, NOT just during SPARTAN SWIMMING practice times. Please call SPAR at 527-2500 for information on the available membership packages.

(certain age restrictions apply to regular, non-team time membership usage)

Age Group

Ages:

10 to 13 Years Old

Focus:

The Age Group is our first group where swimmers are introduced to traditional training on a consistent and regular basis.  Novice swimmers are promoted to Age Group as the swimmer meets the outlined criteria and the coaching staff feels they are ready. The appropriate attendance recommendations must also have been met, as when the swimmers reach this level, consistency in training schedules play a major role in continued improvement.  Technique and development are still the major focuses of Age Group, with a geared emphasis toward competing on a regular basis.  The technique to training ratio for Age Group is about 40% technique to 60% training on a daily basis.  Age Group swimmers are promoted to Senior on a case-by-case basis as the coaching staff sees fit, and at the beginning of a season.

Competitions:

Swimmers in Age Group are expected to compete on a regular basis each season. Age Group swimmers will typically attend 1 to 2 meets per month throughout the year.

Senior

Ages:

14 to Post Graduate

Focus:

The Senior Group serves as our training platform for swimmers who are 13 or turning 13 within the coming season.  This group serves a multitude of purposes for SWIM LOUISIANA and is our most diverse training group.  These swimmers could be new to the sport but over the age of 12, swimmers coming in from our gold group, developing swimmers who need to refine their skills, or even established swimmers who have multiple commitments to other activities which limit commitment are all part of this group.  Swimmers in the Senior Group work toward developing a sound aerobic base while maintaining a solid focus on technique and skill development.  The technique/training ratio for the Senior Group varies, but is mainly 30% technique to 70% training.
